Reigning Kenya Amateur Strokeplay champion Justus Madoya beat Royal Nairobi’s Jay Sandhu in the first hole of a sudden death play-off to add the Uhuru Shield in his collection at the 72 Royal Nairobi Golf Club course at the weekend.

The two started a neck-and-neck battle right from the first round, had where they tied on 73 though Madoya pulled away after one under par 71 in the second round.

However, Sandhu who in May won the Safaricom Challenge Finale, shot two over par 74 for a total of 220 to cancel Madoya’s two shots lead as the Great Rift Valley Golf Resort player Madoya fired four over par 76 to also finish on 220 thus forcing the play-off at the 10th where he sank for birdie while Sandhu made a par to finish second.

Finishing third in the Keringet sponsored Golfer of The Year event was Kenya Amateur Matchplay champion Tony Omuli who like Sandhu, carded 74 for 226, just a shot better than Golfer of The Year(GOTY) leader David Opati who missed several birdie chances in his third round 77 which saw him finish in fourth place on 227.

Eldoret Golf Club’s Musa Kisia was alone on 229 for fifth place.

Junior international Daniel Nduva posted a disastrous 83 in the third round to drop from third to sixth place on 231.

There was a tie for the seventh place between two Royal players Eric Ooko and Jonathan Chebukati who posted a 54-hole total of 233.

Ooko shot eight over par 80 and Chebukati fired one over par 73 to also wind up on 233.

The club members were still on the course battling it out for the subsidiary titles. The season’s grand finale, the Nyali Open being sponsored this year by Nyali Beach International Hotel is set for December 15 and 16 where the season’s best amateur golfer will be crowned.

At the Kenya Air Force Golf Club in Nairobi’s Eastleigh, the club’s top single figure handicap golfer Ben Omondi fired an excellent five under par 67 (35, 32), gross which is probably a new course record, for a total of 42 made up of 20, 22 points to claim the 2012 Captain’s (Lieutenant Colonel Martin Ndirangu) Prize.

Omondi who was playing off handicap one later chopped to scratch, started by bogeying the down-hill par four-first after missing the green on two, but this did not seems to have discouraged him.

He picked up birdies at the fourth, seventh, 11th, 12th, 14th and 16th to clinch the overall title in the East Africa Breweries sponsored tournament by a point from second placed L. Kimotho who combined 22 and 19.

Finishing in third place was Lieutenat Colonel Simon Lenyarua who posted 36 points. Railway’s James Mugo carded 39 points to clinch the top prize among the guest, followed by club-mate Chea Thoya on 34 points.

Margaret Kalekye took the ladies prize with a score of 32 points and the best lady guest was Rebecca Gikuru from Royal with 37 points.

The two nines in the tournament went to Ben Kotonya (18) and Anthony Mwangi on 21 points. charme pandora pas cher charme pandora pas cher
