WAFULA, WAHOME ARE BEST JUNIOR GOLFERS OF 2014

Teenagers Naomi Wafula and Mathew Wahome are Kenya’s best junior golfers of the year. The duo, feted at Royal Nairobi Golf Club yesterday by the Junior Golf Foundation (JGF) in an Order of Merit calculated on best ten rounds of past twelve months, averaged stroke index of 75.1 and 73.1 respectively to emerge winners.

Tahir Mohamed was crowned top boy aged between 16-18 years with a 74.8 score. Mary Monari won the girls’ equivalent with a 78.6 mark. Agil Hag was named boy player of the year in ages 13-15 with a stroke index averaging 75.5. Kellie Gachagua scooped the girls equivalent at 80.6 avarage stoke index.

Ikinu Wambugu and Ashley Awuor respectively won the best boys and girls under 12 category.

The awards gala was preceded by a 54-hole Royal Junior Strokeplay championship which was won by John Mburu who totaled 228 gross after carding 81,72 and 75. Gurdit Bhachu emerged overall net winner following a (68,66,70) 204 net while Mathew Wahome was third best.

Members of the JGF formed part of the national team that represented Kenya in the East Africa Challenge in Uganda, Zone VI in South Africa and the inaugural president cup in Zambia-where Kenya won the team trophy. nike air max ladies nike air max ladies

NDIBUSI WINS KQ GOLF SAFARI IN ABUJA

Kachi Ndumbuisi emerged the winner of the seventh leg of KQ Golf safari in Abuja –N.igeria which culminated in par 72 IBB international golf and country club in Abuja over the weekend.

The handicap 13 Ndumbuisi, made a brilliant score of 70 nett in a tightly contested tournament that saw over 180 golfers take to the biggest golf club in west Africa.

In winning the Abuja tour, Kachi booked himself a slot in next year’s Grand Finale at Windsor in Nairobi. Over and above the win, Kachi won the top prize of two return tickets  to fly to any KQ destination in Africa.

Also qualifying for the grand finale was handicap 34 lady winner Olaniyim Olawunmi who posted 74 nett.

Handicap 19 Sunil Mahbubani shot 71 nett to clinch the men winner . S. igwe carded 72 nett to settle for men’s runner up position.

Kasumba emerged the guest winner with a score of 71 nett and playng off handicap 23.

The longest drive men ‘s winner was Baloni . The event was graced by KQ West Africa Area manager Rose Kiseli and Kenyan ambassador to Nigeria Tom Amolo. Kiseli had this to say. “Kenya Airways is keen to promote golf tourism opportunities between Kenya and Nigeria and particularly this great city of Abuja . beyond conventional tourism, we are committed to ensure that we grow the volume of trade between our two countries as a measure to increase intra African trade. That is why we are keen to fly to Abuja which is our latest route.

On his part, Ambassador Amolo lauded Kenya and Nigeria for their strong relationship which has developed the business engagement between the two countries. “ ecnomic activites bewen Kenya and Nigeria is fast growing due to the close friendly ties we have mainted over the years and we seek to grow this relationship even to greater level.” Said amolo.
