Beverage manufacturer, Coca-Cola has today announced a Sh 2.5million sponsorship toward the 91^st edition of the traditional Easter tournament –Tannahill Shield. This is the third year running that Coca-Cola Kenya is sponsoring the tournament. This years’ tournament is scheduled for 3^rd to 5^th April 2015.

Speaking at the sponsorship announcement ceremony held at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club, Coca-Cola Kenya Country Manager Nick Mruttu lauded the tournament organizers for coordinating what is arguably Kenya’s longest running annual tournament. “To consistently attract and maintain first class standards that has made the Tannahill shield what it is for more than 91 years is not an easy task” said Mruttu. He added that the legacy of longevity blends well with the Coca-Cola brand that has been serving refreshing beverages for over 128 years. Last year, Royal Nairobi Golf Club recaptured the Tannahill Shield after a six-year wait. The hosts beat Limuru 6-2 and Karen Country Club with a similar margin for 12 points and a total of 49. Muthaiga Golf Club, which has dominated the tournament for years finished second with 39 points.

“Hosting this tournament is a great honor to us as a club and in the tradition of the tournament we promise a memorable shield for both our players and guests,’’ said Mr. Mugambi Murwithania. “We aim to present the best challenge year in year out and this year is no different,” added Mr. Murwathania.

Coca-Cola, through its entire product range will provide refreshments for the players and spectators. ‘I am sure you are all aware of our ongoing Share a Coke campaign, and in the same spirit I welcome you to join us in this year’s shield and Share a coke with your friends and loved ones, added Mr. Mruttu.

The sponsorship comes two months after Coca-Cola launched its revolutionary Share a Coke consumer. The campaign gives Coca-Cola consumers the opportunity to swap the iconic Coca-Cola logo with personal names of their friends, relatives and family. Muthaiga’s Nicholas Rokoine emerged the winner on the final day of the three-day Barclays Pro-Am Golf tournament, that concluded today at Karen Golf and Country Club today.

Today’s final round saw up to 15 local players participate, all of whom have a slot at the Grand Finale Golf Tournament at the end of this month. The players will also receive a cash reward of Ksh 500,000 to be shared among them.

So far, 84 players drawn from Nakuru, Machakos, Kitale, Nyanza, Sigona, Nanyuki, Thika, Nyali, Eldoret, Vet Lab, Karen, Royal Nairobi Club, Lumuru and Muthaiga Golf Clubs have qualified to participate in the Grand Finale to be held at the Karen Country club on 28^th of March.

Sponsors of the tournament, Barclays Bank, have invested over Ksh 85 million since 2012 to boost the profile of the sport in Kenya.

So far, reigning golfer of the year John Karichu (Limuru), Nelson Simwa, Robinson Owiti (both of Vet Lab), Alfred Nandwa (Railway), Boniface Kosgey (Golf Park) and Mathew Wahome (Nyali) have qualified to represent the country at the prestigious Kenya Open which will run from 7th- 12th April at the Karen Country Club. nike air max 1 nike air max 1
