DUBOIS, NDUATI WIN 2016 COCA-COLA PRO-AM AT THE KENYA OPEN GOLF

The team made up of French professional golfer Edouard Dubois and Kenyan amateur golfer Patrick Nduati are the winners of the 2016 Coca-Cola Pro-Am at the Barclays Kenya Open.

The Dubois/Nduati partnership returned an impressive score of nine-under par 63 to pocket Sh 67, 500 (Euros 600) for Dubois and a golf prize for Nduati. Played in the Better Ball Format, the team score is from the combined effort of each team member.

Four teams were tied in second place with a score of eight-under par 64; they included the team of Swede professional golfer Gabriel Axell and Maurice Gitari, the team of Kenyan professional Riz Charania and Waweru Thuku, the team of Swiss professional golfer Benjamin Rusch and Humphrey Maina and the team of Swede Pontus Widegren and KOGL Chairman Peter Kanyago. The professional golfers in these teams bagged Sh 40, 000 (Euros 350) each.

Three other teams were tied in sixth place with a score of seven-under par 65 including the team of Italian professional golfer Lorenzo Gagli and Peter Harris, Kenya professional golfer Brian Njoroge and Daniel Mwambu and South African professional golfer Jacques Blaauw and George Kiraithe. The professional golfers in these team earned Sh9,500 (Euros 83.33) each.

MULTICHOICE BECOMES LATEST SPONSOR OF KENYA OPEN GOLF WITH Sh7.5 MILLION BOOST

MultiChoice Kenya (via DStv and SuperSport) has announced a Sh7.5 million sponsorship package for this year’s Barclays Kenya Golf Open which kicks off on Tuesday 15th March with the pro-am challenge.

MultiChoice sponsorship of the 2016 tournament further deepens DStv and SuperSport’s commitment to golf and sport across Kenya.

Over Sh3million of this amount will go towards broadcast rights and production while the remaining Sh4.5 million will cover administrative costs incurred by organisers of the week-long event,” said Mr. Philip Wahome, MultiChoice Kenya Corporate Communications Manager.

He, further added, “We are also for the first time setting up a DStv Premium Golf Village at the venue to benefit junior golf enthusiasts in addition to helping showcase DStv’s mix of premium content through interactive golfing activities and games for both children and adults.”

Speaking while signing the partnership deal with Kenya Open Golf Limited (KOGL), Mr. Wahome also reiterated MultiChoice’s long-term commitment to the Kenyan market through investment in local content and talent.

This partnership with the KOGL is a clear indication of our pursuit to support various existing local sports in the country. We have already invested in world-class facilities to enable us support the production of world-class content to give our viewers in line with developing sports and creating employment,” he added.

KOGL tournament’s Publicity and Marketing Director, Kathleen Kihanya appreciated the support by MultiChoice and SuperSport to provide broadcast of the tourney for lovers of the sport around the continent.

Our six-year partnership with MultiChoice has helped raise the profile of the tournament especially by showcasing it on DStv which has helped beam it to everyone across the world. I commend SuperSport for their continued support to the Kenya Golf Open tournament,” said Ms. Kihanya.

At the same time, SuperSport East Africa General Manager, Mr. Auka Gecheo confirmed they will be flying in renowned SuperSport Golf Presenter Richard Maspero to be part of the tournament’s production team.

We will also fly in golf production experts from South Africa to Nairobi to oversee the production of the tournament. The production will be edited to a 52-minute show that will be aired on SuperSport channels a week after the tournament. We will also run daily updates on our rotating news channel, Blitz for the duration of the event that has grown to become highlight of the sporting calendar not only in Kenya but also in the entire continent,” said Mr. Gecheo.

MultiChoice and SuperSport will set up a wide range of activities at the DStv Premium Golf Village including: Let’s Play for the children’s fun area which will provide activities and coaching at the inflatable football pitch, mini golf, a golf simulator and touch rugby playoff area with screens for the golf simulation, live analysis and interview from SuperSport guest commentator and presenters.

DStv customers will also get a chance to sample the top of the range DStv Explora decoder, pay their subscriptions and buy decoders at the venue.
