Kenya Golf Union (KGU) have decided to field a make shift team for the crucial Victoria Cup between Kenya and Uganda at the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club between June 2 and 5.

The event which will be played on a Ryder Cup format will see each country field 10 players.

There was a stand-off between the leading amateur golfers on the Golfer Of The Year series and the Union over the selection criteria of the national team that they boycotted a qualifying tournament. KGU then last week tried to silently solve the matter by summoning the players individually, but they still hit a dead end.

While releasing the program of event, KGU chairman Anthony Muhoro noted that the teams will have an official practice day on Thursday June 2 on the same day the opening ceremony will be held, with competition being played on June 3, 4 and 5.

The makeshift team will be captained by Bo Ciera who is a member of both Muthaiga and Royal Nairobi Golf Club, others in the team are Neer Chandaria, John Gitonga, Mike Kisia, John Lejirmah, Dennis Maara and Moi Lemoshira. Juniors Kibugu Mutahi, Agil Jamal and Elias Indeche have also been included in the team that will be managed by Andrew Chelogoi and coached by Brian Njoroge.

Muhoro who will double up as the tournament director thanked Muthaiga Golf Club for hosting the inaugural event and noted that players will enjoy playing in one of the best championship golf course in Africa. He noted that such events should be encouraged to enhance integration and cohesion amongst East Africa region
