RAILWAY’S NJOROGE SOARS HIGH TO WIN WINDSOR CLASSIC

Railway’s Simon Njoroge resisted stiff competition at the weekend to emerge the winner of the coveted Windsor Classic competition at the par 72 Windsor Golf and Country Club at the weekend.

Njoroge playing off scratch won the fourth leg of the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) Golfer Of The Year (Goty) series on a total score of 225 after the 54-holes.

He started the first round with a brilliant score of 69, but almost lost it in the last two rounds after managing a round 79 in the second round before posting 77 in the final round for a total of nine over.

The feat saw Njoroge pick 92 valuable points towards the Goty series, thanks to a first round 12 points bonus. He is now ranked second in the Goty standings.

Muthaiga’s Jeff Kubwa playing off handicap +2 was second in the competition on a total score of 226 made up of rounds of 71, 79 and 76, to pick 52 points towards the Goty standings, while Vet lab’s Edwin Mudanyi and Alfred Nandwa of Railways tied in the third position on a score of 231 apiece.

Mudanyi playing off handicap -1 had rounds of 75, 76 and 80, while Goty series leader Nandwa playing off handicap -2 played rounds of 74, 81, 76. The duo picked 28 points apiece towards the Goty series, that see Nandwa leading on a total of 165.6 points.

Royal Nairobi Golf Club players Kevin Juma and Dennis Saikwa tied in the fifth position on a score of 232. Juma playing off handicap two had rounds of 79, 77 and 76, while handicap 0 Saikwa had rounds of 75, 78 and 79.

The best amateur player last season Kenneth Bollo is yet to find his feet this season as he settled for the seventh position on a total score of 235. Bollo playing off scratch had rounds of 76, 84 and 75.

Royal Nairobi represented by seven players, won the club trophy on a score of 699, while Railway who also had seven players tied with Muthaiga in the runners-up position on a score of 706 and Vet Lab was fourth on a score of 710.

KENYA OPEN GOLF GETS KSH5 MILLION JOHNNIE WALKER BOOST

Leading alcoholic beverage manufacturer, Kenya Breweries has today announced a Sh 5million sponsorship toward the 50th edition of Barclays Kenya Open Golf Tournament. This is the fifth year running that KBL through Johnnie Walker is sponsoring the tournament, which will take place on 23rd to 26th March 2017.

Speaking at the sponsorship announcement ceremony, KBL Sale Director, Andrew Kilonzo lauded the tournament organizers for coordinating what is arguably Kenya’s most prestigious golf tourney “To consistently attract and maintain first class standards that has made the Kenya Open Golf what it is for more than 50 years is not an easy task” said Kilonzo. He added that the legacy of longevity blends well with the Johnnie Walker brand that has been serving refreshing beverages for over 150 years.
