ALEXANDER WENNSTAM/ ANTHONY NGERA WIN FIRST KENYA OPEN PRO-AM

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero putts during the first Barclays Kenya Open Golf Pro Am at Muthaiga Golf Club on Tuesday.

The pair combination of Swedish professional golfer Alexander Wennstam and local amateur Anthony Ngera returned a score of 45 points, after playing rounds of 24 and 17 to claim the top prize in the first Kenya Open Pro-Am tournament at the Muthaiga Golf Club on Tuesday.

It was a good outing for Ngera who managed to roll in one birdie and four pars, as his pro played an impressive 4 birdies and an eagle. The pair finished ahead of the pairings of Scott Fernandez/Moses Matsiko, Mark Williams/Tom Macakiage and former Kenya open champion Jake Roos/Sam Kairu who all scored a 45.

Alexander Wennstam walked away with 450 Euros, while Ngera took home a beautiful prize courtesy of the Muthaiga Golf Club.

“The course is in an excellent condition and it was real nice playing here, the exposure I got from playing with the pros has taught me a lot, winning this was always going to be a bonus.” said Ngera.

Alexander, noted that this was great preparation for the main tournament that tees off on Thursday. “This was great preparation going in for the main tournament on Thursday, I am looking forward to great results.”

The all Kenyan pairing of Simon Ngige and KBL Managing Director finished T4 only one point behind the leaders.

A total of 128 players participated in the first Pro-Am of the 2017 Barclays Kenya Open, including Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero. SAFARICOM GIVES KSHS 3.5 MILLION SPONSORSHIP BOOST TO 2017 BARCLAYS KENYA OPEN

Safaricom HOD Enterprise Sales, Tonny Tugee presents a cheque worth Ksh. 3.5 million to Kenya Open PR and Sponsorship Director Kathleen Kihanyaa at the Safaricom Headquarters Nairobi.

Safaricom today announced a Kshs.3.5 million sponsorship towards the 2017 Barclays Kenya Open, scheduled to take place at the Muthaiga Golf Club from Thursday 23rd to Sunday 26th March.

As the Official Telecommunications Sponsor, Safaricom will provide a fully kitted media center and wireless connectivity to the secretariat, clubhouse and the village for the duration of the tournament.

The 49th edition of the tournament will see a total of 156 golfers from 28 countries, including 22 professional Kenyan golfers and six amateurs, compete for the total prize money of Kshs.22 million (220,000 Euros) and top prize of Kshs.3.5 million (32,000 Euros).

Safaricom has invested Kshs.15 million in sponsoring the tournament over the last three years in line with its desire to support events that raise Kenya’s profile as a choice destination for golf professionals and enthusiasts, as well as create broader appeal for the sport locally.

We have enjoyed a great relationship with the organisers of the Barclays Kenya Open and are optimistic that the golfers will deliver an excellent showcase over the four-day tournament,” said Ms. Mulinge.

On Tuesday and Wednesday the venue will host Pro-Am tournaments where visiting players will be join club members and guests of the sponsors.
