Machakos Golf Club will on Saturday, August 28, become the latest golf club in the country to host the ongoing NCBA Golf Series that has so far produced eleven overall winners, among them a junior golfer.

The Machakos event will be the thirteenth event to be held in the calendar this year and follows the success of the two-day junior golf tournament that was held at the Karen Country Club earlier this week.

More than 100 golfers are expected to take to the course for a chance to book a place in the grand finale which will be held at the Karen Country Club in December. Five winners from every leg of the series automatically qualify to play in the grand finale; so far, 55 players from across the eleven host clubs have qualified to play in the finale.

The series has so far been held in Thika, VetLab, Kitale, Sigona, Nyali, Mombasa, Nyeri, Nanyuki, Karen, Kiambu, and Nakuru with Karen hosting the series’ first of two junior golf events. The top finishers in the junior tournament qualified to play at the Rome Classic in October this year, and the Big 5 tournament to be held in South Africa next year.

As part of the golf activities at the Par-72 Machakos Golf club, NCBA Bank has organized a tree-planting exercise in line with its ‘Change the Story’ initiative – an initiative by the bank, together with like-minded partners, to plant trees in a bid to enhance Kenya’s forest cover by 2022.

The Series has to date attracted the participation of over 1,700 golfers, pointing to a strong interest by golfers across participating clubs as NCBA Group Managing Director, John Gachora, notes: We have seen great turnout across the series so far, and I believe Machakos this weekend will be no different. We are particularly pleased that our Change the Story initiative resumes at the Club this weekend where we are looking forward to being joined by the Machakos Club members for this very noble tree planting initiative.”

SuperSport viewers on DStv can look forward to seeing all the action from the PGA Tour’s BMW Championship at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland from Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 August 2021.

SuperSport is the ultimate destination for Golf fans, with an unparalleled selection of action from around the world.

The BMW Championship serves as the second round of the FedEx Cup (featuring 70 players and no midway cut), following on from last week’s Northern Trust tournament. The top 30 FedEX Cup points leaders will then advance into the prestigious Tour Championship, where the FedEx Cup champion will be determined.

Last year’s BMW Championship was won by Spaniard Jon Rahm in dramatic style, as he sunk an incredible 65-foot putt on the 18th to take victory over Dustin Johnson in a playoff.

“I knew how good DJ has been playing. I was expecting nothing else,” Rahm said. “I was fully confident it was going to come into a playoff and hoping to win it. Never did I think I would make another 50-, 60-footer, a couple of breaks in there, to end up winning it.”

The 2021 event will mark the first time the BMW Championship has been held in Maryland and the second time in four years to be held on the East Coast. Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, just outside of Philadelphia, hosted the 2018 edition.

This is a terrific recognition of the remarkable golf experience at Caves Valley, and we are confident the golfers will find our course a great test,” said Steve Fader, chairman of Caves Valley Golf Club. “Golf fans will enjoy a terrific fan experience watching the best players compete here in Baltimore. The BMW Championship also will provide a significant economic impact for Baltimore and the surrounding areas.”

Recent past champions of the BMW Championship other than Rahm include Johnson, who has won the tournament in 2010 and 2016, 2019 champion Justin Thomas, 2018 winner Keegan Bradley and Marc Leishman, who claimed the trophy in 2017.

Players at the top of the FedEX Cup standings include Collin Morikawa, Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay, Harris English, Rahm, Abraham Ancer, Bryson DeChambeau, Louis Oosthuizen, Thomas and Sam Burns.

The Caves Valley Golf Club has a 7,226 yard par 71 course. The purse for the BMW Championship is $9.5million.
