KENYA LADIES TEAM SEEK TO DEFEND BI-ANNUAL GILBERSON & PAGE TROPHY IN HARARE

Kenya begin their defence of the bi-annual Gilberson & Page trophy in Harare, Zimbabwe this week, with the flag raising ceremony being held on Monday afternoon, August 3.
The triangular test match is played between Kenya, Zambia and Zimbabwe and venue is rotated. Kenya last hosted this event in 2013 when they successfully defended the trophy played at Karen and Muthaiga. The seven-ladies team is captained by Muthaiga’s Christina Engell Andersen who has steered the team to victory since 2011 in Zambia.
The other team members are: Naomi Wafula (Handicap 2), Agnes Nyakio (H/c 6), Kellie Gachaga (H/c 6), Mercy Nyanchama (H/c 8), Joyce Wanjiru (H/c 9), Rachel Chebukati (H/c 11) and captain, Christina (H/c 6). The team manager is KLGU Chair Mary Wambugu.
The format is matchplay foursomes and singles, played in one day. Played over two different courses, this year’s event will be held at Royal Chapman and Borrowdale Brook. The first two rounds will be played at Borrowdale on Tuesday, 4 August with the last two rounds played on Thursday, 6 August.
The Gilberson and Page Trophy, (G & P), was first presented in 1969 by Messrs. Jack Gilberson and Reg Page of Zambia and was originally played for between Zambia and the then East Africa. The present format was adopted in 1983 as a Triangular between Kenya, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The event became biennial in 1991.
There are TWO TEST MATCHES played by a Team of 6 amateur players from each of the Ladies Golf Unions of Kenya, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The format is 3 foursomes’ matches in the morning and 6 singles matches in the afternoon.
Kenya is the defending champion having won the event since 2007. The 2009 edition, to be held in Zimbabwe was not played. Zambia hosted in 2011 which Kenya won, and the last edition played at Karen and Muthaiga was also won by Kenya. cheap air max 90 mens cheap air max 90 mens
