COCA-COLA ANNOUNCES SPONSORSHIP OF SH8.6M FOR 2014 BARCLAYS KENYA OPEN GOLF

Coca-Cola is this year’s official soft drinks sponsor of the 2014 Barclays Kenya Open, with a cash sponsorship of Sh8.6 million. The soft drinks giant announced at a press conference at the Karen Club that it will use its full beverage portfolio to leverage the sponsorship. In the previous year’s, the Company’s sponsorship has been through the Dasani water brand.

Coca-Cola General Manager for East Africa, Peter Njonjo said the decision to include the total portfolio led by brand Coca-Cola arose out of the need to hydrate all players and spectators on a choice platform to reflect the company’s’ diverse portfolio of beverage offerings.

As a total beverage business, we feel we can bring more to this premier Golfing Occasion to refresh and remind players and spectators of the happiness in our bottles, especially brand Coca-Cola. There is a clear strategic benefit in leveraging our Platinum sponsorship to connect with our consumers both local and international because our brands promote Active Healthy Lifestyles,” said Njonjo when presented the sponsorship cheque to the Kenya Open Golf Limited chairman Peter Kanyago.

This year’s tournament will be played from March 6th-9th at the Karen Golf Club. The Barclays Kenya Open will again host 2 pro-am events, to give the local amateurs more opportunities to play with the international and local pros. As a platinum sponsor, Coca-Cola has been accorded title sponsorship of one of the two pro-am events to be played at Muthaiga Golf Club on Wednesday March 5th. The Pro-Am offers an opportunity for Kenyan amateur golfers to play with professionals on their own turf. The format of play involves a 3-ball of one Professional and 2 Amateurs.

Receiving the sponsorship cheque, the Kenya Open Golf Limited Chairman Peter Kanyago lauded Coca-Cola for their continued and strong presence in the Barclays Kenya Open. He said “Given that this is the only European Tour Event in the region, we are proud that corporate sponsors come in strongly to support this very important event in the Kenyan sporting calendar. He reiterated KOGL’s commitment in putting together a world class tournament of International standards”.
