Nelson Simwa who finished the first day of the Nyanza Open in the second spot, braved a chilly weather to bounce back and emerge the overall winner after the second round on Sunday at the nine hole Nyanza Golf Club.

Simwa managed a score of 73 gross made up of 37 {4, 4, 5, 4, 5, 5, 3, 4, 3} in the first nine while in the second nine he managed a total of 36 gross after amassing 5, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 4, 4, and 3.

“Am happy of winning this tournament, this was my first time in Nyanza and I have never played at the Hippo Pot” Simwa said.

William Odera playing off scratch and David Opati also playing off scratch who had managed position 1 and 4 respectively on Saturday tied in the second position on 76 gross.

Kericho Golfer William Odera won the first round of the competition on Saturday where he posted a total of 69 gross after accumulating 35 medal points in the first nine {4, 4, 4, 3, 6, 3, 3, 3, 5} and 34 points in the second nine {4, 4, 4, 3, 5, 3, 3, 4, 5}.

“The course was in good shape, the greens were good and I was patting very well and my entire tee offs were good, this worked to my favor and I intent to capitalize on this and improve so that I win the game today,” said Odera on Sunday.

The open was attended by Kenya Golf Union Chairman Alfred Karioki, Western Region KGU Representative William MacTough, and Phyllis Gachau the East African Cables Marketing and Customer care Manager.

In the second position was Vet Lab Sports club Nairobi Nelson Simwa who managed a total of 71 Gross.

In the first nine he scored 35 in total after amassing 6, 4, 4, 3, 5, 3, 3, 3, and 4 while in the second nine he managed a total of 36 after posting 4, 4, 4, 2, 4, 4, 4, 4, and 6. Railways Golfer Alfred Nandwa came third after managing a total of 72 Gross.

In the first nine Nandwa scored 37, {5, 4, 5, 3, 6, 4, 3, 3, and 4} and in the second nine he managed a total of 35 {5, 3, 4, 3, 5, 4, 4, 3, and 4}.

Golf Park’s Opati and Steve Karanja from Kiambu Golf tied on 73 gross for position 4. Karanja scored 35 and 38 in the first and second nine respectively.

In the fifth position was Dennis Saikwa from Golf Park who managed 74 after accumulating 37 {5, 4, 4, 4, 5, 4, 4, 3} gross in the first nine and 37 {4, 4, 5, 4, 5, 3, 4, 3, 5} in the second.
