KAMAU BEATS 300 GOLFERS TO CLINCH CHAIRMAN’S PRIZE AT RUIRU CLUB

Paul Kamau emerged as the overall winner of the KCB-sponsored chairman’s prize at the Ruiru Sports Club on Saturday evening.

Playing off handicap 22, the seasoned golfer carded 42 points to beat his closest challenger Ben Kanyi on countback to win the tourney at the Thika-based facility.

The par 72 golf course brought together 300 golfers who battled for the top honors. Runner up Ben Kanyi, handicap 22 was named the man winner with 42 points ahead of Kibera Maina (handicap 22) and Alex Machocho (handicap 21) who carded 41 and 40 points respectively.

Former Kiambu golf club captain Ann Ngumba triumphed in the ladies’ category, playing off handicap 21 to emerge top with 40 points. Handicapper 18 Tabitha Kiragu came in second with 39 points while Faith Nyagaki settled for third place on 37 points.

Speaking over the phone after being feted in absentia, Paul Kamau said: “Beating 300 golfers is not a small achievement especially when you’re playing the chairman’s prize. I think my confidence and a bit of luck handed me the win today. The second nine was fantastic, I hope to continue with the same momentum going forward and hopefully win more tournaments.”

Handicap 26 Amos Mwaura clinched the first nine award whereas his fellow golfer handicap 14 Steven Mwitari scooped the second nine award.

In the Guest winner award in the men and ladies’ category, handicappers 23 and 21 Stanley Wainaina and Rebecca Njui took home the awards respectively. Benson Kimani was crowned the nearest to the pin award in the men category while Sophie Mbochi was the lady winner.

RAPHAEL NZOMO EMERGE OVERALL WINNER OF THE ‘LUNGS FOR KENYA’ CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT IN KAREN

Raphael Nzomo was crowned the overall winner of the Nature Kenya’s ‘Lungs for Kenya’ charity golf tournament at the lush par 72 Karen Country Club on Friday.

The KCB-sponsored tourney that brought together a field of over 100 golfers saw the African Aviation CEO card an impressive score of 41 points after count-back to clinch his day’s victory.

Jason Gibson claimed the man-winner award carding 41 points after countback to beat his closest challenger Andrew Njoba who carded 40 points after count-back to take the runner-up position. Stella Kariuki was named the overall lady winner with 41 points.

Speaking after being named the overall winner, Raphael Nzomo said: “I’m overwhelmed with joy to be named the overall winner of this golf tournament, as it will contribute to conserving our environment. The funds raised today will go a long way in supporting Kenya’s efforts for climate action. I can attribute my victory to good preparation. Today, my swing was there and my first nine and back nine performance was exemplary. Looking forward to tournaments to come especially those aimed towards noble courses.”

A three-ball contingent of Joel Wainaina, Stella Kariuki, and Robert Wakaba clinched the team winner’s award with 110 points. In the nearest to the pin category, Emmanuel Ageng’o was the man winner while Akinyi Gitonga was the lady winner.

KCB recognizes the importance of integrating climate change measures into national policies and strategies. By supporting the ‘Lungs for Kenya’ campaign, the bank demonstrated its commitment to catalyzing the growth of trees and maintaining ecosystem services to fight climate change and increase water quantity in the county’s environs.

Paul Matiku, the Executive Director- Nature Kenya, said: “Through the ‘Lungs for Kenya’ Charity campaign, our desire is to plant 1 million trees annually in key biodiversity areas as well as water catchments. In the past 12 tournaments, we have supported the growing of three million trees in Mt. Kenya.”
